Michel is a Toronto Cameraman and Director of Photography and Advanced drone operator. His late father Jean Bisson started him off shooting at the young age of sixteen. Michel landed a contract with CBC Sports at the age of nineteen in Montreal then with CBC French in Toronto. Wanting to grow more in the industry he went freelance and never looked back.
Being bilingual in French and English, Michel has shot all over the world, shooting everything from Toyota cars in Japanese’s studios to in the water with Beluga whales in Hudson Bay, Churchill, Manitoba.
Michel has been shooting for over thirty years and has worked with just about every major network in North America plus working in Corporate, Commercials, TV Series to Movies, Documentary, Sports. Michel has done it all. He has a history of always trying to give the best quality possible to his clients.
Starting off in 16 & 35mm Film with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation then on to video, owning several cameras like the Aaton LTR 16mm film to the latest Sony FX9, Sony A7R III cameras along with a full set of Sigma high-speed PL cine primes. Michel is always in tune with the latest technologies.
Michel believes in owning his equipment, which guarantees a great final product. A believer in knowing what state his equipment is in, and every nuance associated with each piece of equipment, he owns every thing from Cameras, Lenses, Lighting, Grip, Steadicam, Gimbal, Jib’s, Sliders plus Sound equipment.
His clients have the confidence that he cannot only shoot and DP, but he can operate every piece of equipment he owns. He believes that if you rely on rental equipment you can’t know what state it’s in or if the camera settings are off. Owning eliminates the fear of rental breakdown.
The long and short of it is that Michel just wants the shoot to go as Professionally and as smoothly as possible.
His Father told him when he started out “That you are only as good as your last SHOOT.” Michel has been living by that rule ever since.
So contact him for your next project. He’d love to hear from you.
